The first Tuesday of this May is one of the most special days, to fight one of the world’s most chronic disease, Asthma. World Asthma Day is organized by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) every year. The main aim of organizing this special event is to create awareness about asthma and its care. World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that around 235 million people including children suffer from Asthma which, sometimes even lead to premature deaths. The prevention and precautions for treating this chronic disease have been implemented relentlessly by many healthcare organizations. On the very day of World Asthma Day, GINA organizes the event in collaboration with various healthcare groups as well as asthma educators. It was started in the year 1998 and since then this World Asthma Day is been celebrated in more than 35 countries and day-by-day the number of countries are rapidly increasing. Along with the number of countries, the number of people and the degree of awareness is also increasing.
Every year, GINA chooses out a particular theme for celebrating this special day and this year the theme is ‘Stop for Asthma’. They take part in distributing and in preparing the materials and resources that are required for World Asthma Day. Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) also maintains internet headquarters where they do post about materials and resources and this can be downloaded. In this very day of World Asthma Day, which is going to be celebrated on the first Tuesday of May that is 7th May 2019. So, come forward and let’s celebrate this World Asthma Day to eliminate this disease.
